Elias Romley Recognized by Peers
PHOENIX (November 13, 2009) - Jennings Haug Cunningham L.L.P. is proud to announce that one of its founding partners, Elias Romley, has been inducted into the Maricopa County Bar Association's 2009 Hall of Fame. This years honorees, which include twenty-one legal professionals from throughout Arizona, were recognized by their peers for having a significant impact on the practice of law. This marks the second consecutive year for a Jennings Haug Cunningham partner being named to the list, as Bill Haug was included in the inaugural year of the Hall of Fame in 2008.
Elias Romley began his legal career in 1932 and formed the first partnership at Moore & Romley in 1937, the firm known today as Jennings Haug Cunningham. The late Romley was a successful, well-known trial and appellate lawyer in Arizona. His outstanding ability as a trial lawyer was recognized nationally, as he was one of the first of two Arizona lawyers invited to become a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1950. Other professional recognition that Romley received included his receiving the State Bar's Walter E. Craig Distinguished Service Award in 1971 and an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Arizona in 1979. Finally, as the founder and first president of the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services, Romley served from 1980- 1984, longer than any other person.
The Maricopa County Bar association's Hall of Fame honors judges and lawyers who have practiced law for a minimum of ten years. In addition, those recognized have had a significant influence on the growth of the Maricopa County Bar Association, and introduced a unique contribution to the law, or exhibited leadership within the community and the profession.
